A Round of Words in 80 Days

Row80 - The Writing Challenge That Knows You Have a Life.  Isn’t that brilliant?

Goals and Accountability are two of the most crucial elements for any author when writing a manuscript.  Row80 will challenge me to set attainable goals, and signing in twice a week to update my fellow Row80ers on my status will hold me accountable.  No one will be fired or kicked out if we don’t meet our goals – we technically don’t have to write a thing.

ROUND 2 of 2012

Round 2 runs from April 2nd – June 21st, and I want to wish my fellow participants great success!

My goals can be found over at The Row of Wonder, a special site Jen L. Kirchner, Amber West, and I are dedicating to our Row 80 goals and progress.  Check it out!

  1. Wow! Huge goal. Very best of luck!!

  2. S.J. Noir says:

    20…thou…a week?

Your energy, I want to harvest it for my own lazy ass purposes.

Great progress so far, I hope you meet your goal!

  3. Wow! That’s a pretty hefty goal. Good luck on that word count. You’re well on your way.

  4. ROW80 sponsor here…

Holy cow! 20k words per week! Good luck to you. You are awesome for shooting for the stars.

    • Thank you for the well wishes – I may have been a bit over zealous! But it’s my goal and I’m going to do my best to hit it. I want to have two manuscripts done by the end! Good luck with your 750! Thanks for being a sponsor & for stopping by!

  5. I didn’t quite make my 1st week goal, but I figure we’re just warming up right? Hope you do better this week :-)

  6. Buddy Gott says:

That’s an awesome goal, Tiffany. Best of luck to you with it!

P.S. – You’ve inspired me here. I’m going to set the same goal of 20,000 words in a week for at least one of my weeks here in ROW80!

  7. Komal says:

Wow, that is a big goal but you seem very focussed and have gotten a lot of writing done. 16, 000 words is amazing! I wish I had that sort of determination. Good luck for this week!

  8. andrewmocete says:

20K??? You’re an animal. Maybe after Justified wraps for the season you’ll have an easier time.

  9. Wow, you set some serious goals for yourself! I hope you continue to have the same kind of progress that you’ve had this week. Sounds very productive!

  10. Great progress and awesome goals! I’m keen to watch your check-ins now. ;)

  11. oh WOW!! that is a huge goal; I am amazed. good luck! I hope you hit it ’cause it’ll be AWESOME if you do!

  12. Katy Bennett says:

20k a week, I could write 52 novella’s a year. Good to see you’re inching towards meeting that goal

  13. alberta ross says:

shoot for the stars girl – if you don’t try you wont get there – well done on what you have acheived – I’m on goodreads although have neglected it of late mainly because of the a-z blog challenge hasn’t left much time for anything befriend me if you like- be nice to see you

  14. Sounds like great progress to me!

I’m on Goodreads, but not doing much til after Sparks is done.

  15. Hey, congrats an upping your word mark! :)

  16. Progress is progress! Well done again. :D

I’m on Goodreads, I love it. I waste waaaaay too much time browsing over there. :)

  17. Ghenet says:

I’m so impressed by how much you’re writing! 20k is quite a goal but it gives you something to push for. Good luck. :)

  18. You have set a pretty high goal for yourself, but 6000+ words is nothing to sneeze at! I have just recently set up a Goodreads account, so I’ll have to hop over there and look you up. Good luck with your goals!

  19. Kate C. says:

20,000 a week??? And I thought I was ambitious. Holy COW!!! Best of luck. Don’t feel bad to not make it the first couple of weeks; sometimes it takes a while to work yourself up to goal.

  20. Good luck this week getting to 20k.

  21. Keep plugging away, girl! You made some good progress, so don’t fret over missing the original goal. If you can maintain your current pace you’ll be way ahead of many of us.

BTW – I haven’t quite figured out Goodreads yet, so I haven’t been able to add you as a friend. I’ll check it again later and see if I can get the hang of it. Wish me luck!

    • Thanks for the encouragement! I don’t log into goodreads much, but I will also look for you if I don’t see an invite run across my inbox. I definitely need to spend more time there: writing actual reviews, adding books to my “to read” list, etc. Thanks for stopping by!

  22. andrewmocete says:

Every update you get a little closer. By the time you hit that goal, you’ll have a whole book done. Go!

  23. Claire says:

Wow, Tiffany! Your goals are WONDERFULLY ambitious, and you’ve done extremely well so far! What an inspiration you are to the rest of us. Happy writing, and don’t forget to do some wrist exercises, what with all that typing! ;)

    • Thank you – I hope I can inspire the other writers in Row80 the way they have inspired me. I’ve added over 18,000 words to my WIP since joining the group! Thanks for stopping by!

  24. andrewmocete says:

I don’t even know what your book is about, but reading your progress makes me want to have it no matter the subject. I’ll be like, “Did you know Tiffany wrote and edited this whole thing in 80 days?”

  26. Go 7k! I bet you’ll do it this week.

Your 20k goal could be done and dusted if you just did three 1k word sprints a day. Easy, right? ;) Still loving your goal!

  27. kerrymeacham says:

I’ll agree with everyone else that you’re incredibly aggressive in your goals. It’s great to see the progress you’re making. I’m in Kristen’s Warrior Writer Boot Camp Charlie Team, so I’m sure you had a great time with her this week. I also saw on Twitter where you had lunch with her and Nigel. He seems like a great guy too.

Good luck in the next week Tiffany. 3,000/day. Eat that elephant one bite at a time.

  28. You’re doing great! The conference sounds like it was really amazing. I wet to one over the weekend and it really inspired me. Good luck on 20K – I KNOW you can do it!

  29. Claire says:

Great job this week, Tiffany! You continue to impress me with your aggressive, ambitious goals. Really, just staggering! Keep on fighting for that 20K/week goal! you can do it! :D

  30. Claudia says:

WOW! If I had the same progress as you this week, my WIP would be done!

  31. The best goals aren’t necessarily the ones we hit every week. Keep working toward that 20K, but look at all the progress you’re making in the meantime!

  32. andrewmocete says:

These updates are great. Love to read how hard you’re working towards that lofty goal.

  33. Pft. With the week you’ve had, 1000+ words is pretty darn good! Life got in the way, but didn’t totally derail you. Wishing your mom a speedy recovery, and wishing you plenty of words!

  34. Sorry to hear about your mum, and your car. Things can only get better right. 1k is better than none, you should be very proud of yourself managing that many with the week you’ve had!

  35. andrewmocete says:

    Enjoy the boot camp!

  36. You can send me some of your energy. And I don’t mean the Texas heat!

  37. alberta ross says:

you done okay – best of luck for coming week

  38. Saki always helps with any goal.

  39. Awesome job with words and editing. I need to do some writing sprints with you again. :)

  40. andrewmocete says:

I’m sure I’m not alone in hoping for a post entitled “My Night With Sake”.

  41. andrewmocete says:

    Andrew Mocete likes your progress.

  42. Julie Glover says:

Your 20,000-woord write goal is SO ambitious, but I think your 2,800 words is nothing to sneeze at! (I think I would need a weeklong writing retreat to make it over 20,000 words.)

Perhaps by setting the bar high, you’re motivated to use any time you have for writing. I think you’re going to be quite happy with the results when the 80 days are up! Best of luck to you!

  43. It looks like you’ve been regularly writing, so well done! I’ve always liked your goal because, as Julie said above me, you’re constantly striving to write. I’m the kind of person who slacks off after I allow myself free time so pushing probably works better. Best of luck next week.

  44. Katherine says:

    Good luck with the challenge!

Hmm… I’m not sure I’ve had stitches. But I’ve had the tip of my finger (the very tip) glued back on with tissue glue. Does that count?

  45. andrewmocete says:

    Good luck with #WeWrite!

  46. K.B. Owen says:

You’ve got some ambitious writing goals, Tiffany – good for you! Love your pictures. Basketball in a knee brace? You were one tough kid – and cute, too!

  47. educlaytion says:

I’m so glad you jumped into School Photo Day! I’ve never seen a pink knee brace before either. Nice senior photo.

    • Thanks, Clay! No one ever believes me about the pink knee brace, and I’m still the only one to date that I know had to wear a pink one. I’m not sure if the Dr. hated me or what! Thank you for the compliment too. You’re the best!

  48. Amazing writing goals. Nice to meet another writer who played basketball. I managed to survive without a knee brace, though I have fractured about 4 of my fingers.

Love those pics! Here is my kindergarten one…

    • Leanne, your injuries made me squirm just now! I jammed fingers, but YIKES! Never fractured them. Looking back, I don’t know how basketball is considered a non-contact sport. ;) Thanks for the support & for stopping by!

  49. “I am pleased with my progress”. This is what I like to hear. We can all talk about our word count or lack of it, or how we did or didn’t do this or that. And all the other authors can encourage and cheer. But when we are pleased with our own progress, that counts for a lot. Way to go!

  50. andrewmocete says:

I love the name of the team was rebels.

Two chapters is very doable. It usually amounts to ten to twenty pages of reading. It’s an awesome book.

  51. alberta ross says:

well done – enjoy a rest now and see you in round 3

  52. Ghenet says:

Congrats on writing over 60k words! That’s amazing. I’m skipping round 3 but will see you in round 4 if you participate! :)

  53. You’ve accomplished a lot with that many words! Go you! See you in round three.

  54. andrewmocete says:

If you average by month, that’s over 20k a month! Nice, Tiffany.

  55. Claudia says:

63k words! That’s way more than I got done, but then again I think I deleted a hell of a lot more and have no idea how many words I actually wrote :)

So happy to have met you during ROW and glad to hear you’ll be back!!!

  56. 60K! That’s a excellent chunk of writing! Also, I kind of love that you set a high goal and didn’t revise it. I glad you stuck with it because, hey, 60K!!!

  57. 60k+ words is awesome! Well done on your achievements. I’ve always loved how huge your goals were, so I’m looking forward to seeing them next round if we’re both around. Best of luck! :D

  58. Craig Hansen says:

Great job, that’s no small amount of words in 80 days! :) See you July 4 for Round 3!

  59. Amber Stults says:

Your goals for ROW80 Round 2 were really ambitious. You should be proud of all those words you wrote. Good luck in Round 3!

    • Thanks, Amber! I never once hit my goal, but I felt so good every single week with my accomplishments. Heck, 60K in 80 days isn’t bad, right? Good l uck and I’m looking forward to working with you in Round 3!

  60. Lauren says:

Good set of goals there! Best of luck in Round 3 – so glad you’ll be a sponsor!

  61. Julie Glover says:

Welcome back to ROW80! Having thrown my hat in the ring as well, I’ll be checking in and cheering you and the others on.

Best wishes, and thanks for sponsoring!

  62. Robin says:

Good luck with all your goals for round 3!!!

  63. Claudia says:

Yeah for Tiffany! That’s all I got tonight.

  66. Awesome goals! I look forward to reading your inspirational post!

  67. Gene Lempp says:

Awesome goals Tiffany! Keep pressing forward, very impressive :)

  68. Good job. I’ve been meaning to read Jim Butcher’s series. Will get around to it eventually. I’m on a paranormal kick right now and reading M.L.N Hanover’s Vicious Grace, # 3 in a series.

  69. Claudia says:

Way to go with your goals! I’m with you on the pool reading… Hoping to spend an hour or two by the pool reading tomorrow :)

  70. Good job! I always have something to read. I’m working my way through the Night Huntress series, among other books *cough*. 0=)

  71. Shari says:

Hm. My goals want to be your goals when they grow up!! Awesome inspiration here, thanks for bringing it!!! keep it rocking!

  75. Jody Moller says:

Great work…. you have set yourself some incredible goals. Hope you have another great week. Am loving all this ROW80 love!

  76. I already voted!! Okay, it was a half-ass attempt, but it still counts :)

  77. Well, TIffany, you’re doing great on goals, so I guess we can forgive you the missed check-in ;) I’m wondering how you survived the birthday parties!

I’m looking forward to the West Texas post and WIP. Keep on kicking it!

  78. CMStewart says:

Hey, I thought I was the only one who put all the check-ins in 1 blog post! lol

Good progress despite all those kid’s B-Days. I’d be rocking in a corner with my arms around my knees. Impressive word count!

  79. Jenny Hansen says:

Tiff, that’s awesome on the freelance gig!! I’m following that same path and you definitely have the voice for it. I’m so excited for you!!!

And, yeppers, you have been quiet. *whining* But we understand. :-) ~ Congrats on the great week!

  80. Ruth Nestvold says:

Congrats on the freelance writing gig! And I really do think that writing a synopsis beforehand can help in the actual writing. At the very least, I need to know my ending for I can write something — have to have a goal to shoot for!

  81. Good luck this round!! Looking forward to your sponsor posts. :)

  82. Good luck this round, Tiffany! You goal is higher than mine! LOL

  83. The post said stylishly late and I’m even later than you.
Looking forward to getting to know you!
