Friday FaBOOolousness – November’s MarvelOoous Thanksgiving Mashup

Preparing for Thanksgiving as a child was always so much fun.  At school, we’d dress up like the pilgrims and tell the story of the first Thanksgiving.  In arts and crafts, we’d trace our hand, making the design of a turkey and our parents would hang the holiday masterpiece on the refrigerator.

I was a better artist at five years old…

But as adults, preparing for the holiday stresses most of us out, so I’ve decided to share a few of my favorite Thanksgiving blogs to help anyone who may be looking for a bit of holiday history or that special dish.

First, Kathy Owen educates us on The History of Thanksgiving and reminds us of a few popular Thanksgiving Traditions.

Next, a few of our favorite bloggers share family (and Internet) recipes to help make our Thanksgiving absolutely delicious.

Jillian Dodd shares her quick and easy Spaghetti Corn.  Can I say, “Yummy?”  We made this dish Wednesday night, and someone in my house went back for seconds….

Kate Wood provides us with a few Easy and Yummy Thanksgiving Recipes.

Who knew that Jen L. Kirchner not only writes the very creative and thrilling Vote Your Own Adventure series, but can also cook like a gourmet chef?  Well, she can…  Check out her Sausage Stuffing Twist.

For those of us in the south, what meal is complete without cornbread?  With that in mind, Catie Rhodes generously shares her Mamaw’s Onion Cornbread recipe over at David N. Walker’s blog.

Don’t worry; we didn’t forget the sweets and treats!

Sonia G. Medeiros gives us a few Recipes for Oh Yeah!

Who said we can’t have Christmas Pudding at Thanksgiving?   Obviously, Tameri Etherton thinks we can.  Thanks, Tameri!

Who loves chocolate?  Try Kerry Meacham’s Mom’s Fudge Pie Recipe.  Notice the warning to practice before planning to serve.  To quote Kerry, “I’d hate for you to have fudge soup.”  Fudge Soup.  Doesn’t sound so bad.

What dessert round-up would be complete without cupcakes?  Cupcakes are slowly but surely growing to be a staple in our household.  Amber West knows this, therefore she shares a step by step process for making Pumpkin Cupcakes.

To contribute to the recipes, I’ve included my favorite Light and Fluffy Fruit Salad that is perfect for a holiday gathering:

Shopping List:

1 can cherry pie filling
1 container whipped cream
1 can crushed pineapple
1 can mandarin oranges
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 cup chopped pecans
1 cup marshmallows

Action –

Now, this is the fun part.  Mix everything together in a large bowl.  Don’t worry about draining the fruit.  Just dump, mix and refrigerate.

Viola.

And when we’ve reached that point of misery where we’ve unbuttoned our pants and dropped down onto the couch afraid our stomach is going to blow, Natalie Hartford has found the perfect Hands-Free Drink Holder so we don’t also collapse due to dehydration.

Before we go, let’s remember one of the most important messages of the Thanksgiving Season – to give thanks.

Ellie Soderstrom is writing down 1,000 things she is thankful for everyday and asks that we share in the spirit and be thankful for even the smallest things in life in her blog: Thankfulness and Ode de Toilet.

Stacy Green reminds us to Cherish the Small Things in life in this very inspirational post about her brother.

Your turn – what are you thankful for?  What’s one of your favorite holiday dishes?  I’d love to hear from you!

On a personal note, I am thankful for the love of my life; my partner in every aspect of the word.  My guy is a true blessing and I thank God every day that He brought Erin into my life.  My mom always tells me that I’m not an easy person to live with; she’s not joking.

Oh, and Erin – he’s thankful for my dad….for raising such a spoiled rotten little princess.  Haha.

Back to being serious, I’m thankful for my family and friends.  I have been blessed my entire life with an impenetrable circle of strength, love, and support.  But most importantly, none of this would be possible without the Man above and the men and women dedicating their lives to keeping all of us safe.

Thank you and Have a Happy and Safe Thanksgiving.

  1. What an amazing compilation of all the tasties and yummies all over the blogosphere. I can’t wait to visit each and print off their delights. Even though I am kitchen-challenged, there are some of these that even I would totally try!
My favorite Thanksgiving dish – the mash potatoes, with loads of melting butter, and gravy (OMG)!
I am most thankful for my own love of my life, hubby. He’s made my world a remarkable place to be and I love and treasure him dearly. I am also thankful for all my friends and family and for our continued health. And I am super grateful for the blogging family I’ve come to know and love these last few months – I could imagine my world without each of you in it! 🙂
    Happy Thanksgiving Tiffany (next week…lol)!!!

  2. I’ll be making my peanut butter cookies that were a big hit last Christmas; my roommate is allergic to chocolate, so I’m becoming pretty good at making tasty deserts that she can actually eat! It’s a pretty basic recipe, but I use half brown sugar and half raw sugar and it makes for a really, really awesome cookie.

I’m thankful for so many things, but most of all, I’m thankful for the life that I have. It wasn’t exactly the life I was expecting to have at this point, but my life has given me a lot of trials and tribulations that give me a perspective that few people are able to have. I’m thankful that I have a family who understands that I need to go my own way for a while and they love and support me in that, and that I have great friends who have reached out to me and helped me get back on my feet. I’m thankful that I have a life that allows me to do what I love and that there may be a pretty grand future in that, too. I’m thankful to be blessed with a simple, calm life with just the right amount of excitement and a whole lot of contentment.

I could probably go on, but, y’know….

  3. My favorite Thanksgiving dish? Anything that doesn’t involve turkey, dressing or (ugh)cranberry sauce.

What am I thankful for? I see everything that happens in my life as a blessing from God, and I’m thankful for every single one. Next Wednesday’s blog expresses my thanks to mothers everywhere.

  4. Oh my goodness, so many yummy recipes to try! I don’t know where to start! I’ve got to try the onion cornbread and spaghetti corn. That sounds like something Grace would love. And don’t even get me started on the sweets, lol.

Thanks so much for including me in this. Means a lot:)

  5. I’m thankful for my wonderful family and friends. They are so supportive and make my life a joy.

Thanks for including my mother’s fudge pie recipe. I hope anyone that tries it enjoys it as much as I have through the years. Thanks, Tiffany. ~clink~

  6. I’m not a good cook, so I need all the help I can get! LOL. Thanks.

I love Thanksgiving; it’s my favorite holiday. (I hereby refrain from any soapbox comments about the infringement of Christmas on this day.) I love gathering with family and friends for a great meal and taking the opportunity to thank God for all the blessings I have in my life. I have an incredible family, with a loving, supportive husband and two great sons as well as parents and siblings who are smart, funny, and enjoyable to spend time with. At this point in my life, I am especially blessed to be able to pursue what I love – writing. Whether I’m blessed to get that NYT bestseller spot someday or not, I will always be grateful for this experience.

I’m also thankful for Psych, Castle, HIMYM…oh wait, I’ll save that for your Watch Wed posts. 🙂

  7. Great mash up, thanks for compiling all the good stuff 😉 Your little turkey-hand almost looks like the Twitter bird!

  8. Thanks for including me in your mashup. My favorite holiday dish is a sausage stuffing I usually make. One of my college professors gave me the recipe. It’s beyond awesome.

I’m thankful for my family (which includes my husband and my dog). They love me even though [fill in the blank]. I’m thankful for my life and that I am reasonably intelligent. I’m thankful to have a place to live and food to eat.

And I’m thankful to have friends like you. 😀

  9. Thank you so much for the links of awesome! 🙂

I’m thankful for so many things…God, Church, my husband, my sons, my mom, all of my family, my real life friends, my online friends, my job, my health, my dog…..so MANY things!

  10. Lovin all the thankfulness posts. Just did the same theme for this week’s Life List Club post, and David and I are guest posting on monday about thanksgiving too, so there’s more to come! Now, how will I find the time to make all these recipes? Oh that’s right, I’ll have 2 open hours on thursdays until Jan. 5. 😉

  11. So many terrific links and recipes. They all look great but I’m leaning toward the pumpkin muffins. They look like something I’d love with a cup of coffee in the morning. My favorite holiday dish? I have to say gravy. I only eat it twice a year…Thanksgiving and Christmas, but on those two occasions I drown my food in it to make up for the rest of the year.

  12. I started reading this in Vegas and had to stop ~ I was getting so hungry! Oh, man, those cupcakes look so good and that stuffing. Yum! Fudge pie? Yes please! Sensing a theme here? I’m going to make them all. Oh, yes I am. We’re going to my husband’s aunts for Thanksgiving and so I usually make a smaller feast on Saturday for just the four of us. I’m so excited to have new recipes!

What am I thankful for? All of you. No, seriously. Everyday I log on, I know I’ll be entertained or have my heart touched by one of my fabulous new blogging friends’ posts. I feel like I won the lottery of fabulousness with all the great people I’ve met through blogging. Thank you all!
